Rejuvenation Project: Built-in Bookshelf
At The P&W, we’re suckers for a good built-in bookshelf. A nice change from a flat wall and still a different feel than kitchen cabinets, a full wall built-in is always an enjoyable project for us to refinish. And we think our team, along with this client’s great taste, totally knocked this one out of the park.
We started with an existing, beautifully-made wooden bookshelf in a walnut stain with some grain showing through. The client was looking for an update and chose a creamy off-white color for their P&W rejuvenation. We began with prepping, stripping, and sanding the focal piece with care. We then removed the cabinet doors and sprayed the shelving and boxes on-site with our professional lacquer finishing system. The beadboarding on the bookcase required some extra attention to look as flawlessly finished as the rest, but we thoroughly took each piece from stained grain to pure off-white.
Also, for this particular project, we updated the cabinets with brand new door faces, keeping a similar, but more modern feel. We finished the replacement doors in-shop at our own professional spray booth. This makes for less mess in the home, and more efficiency in the finish. After several coats, we returned to install the new doors, complete with more up-to-date hardware for the knobs. We think the final product is stunningly gorgeous and especially love how the simple wooden desk now pops against an off-white backdrop. Just perfection!
