7 Tips And Tricks For Painting Your Ceiling in Shamong, NJ
When you’re looking to update the look of your home, there are many things you can do — including painting the interior.
The thing that some might not realize is that one of the surfaces that should be periodically painted (as all interior surfaces should now and again) is the ceiling – though it is not seen as often as the other surfaces, it still is necessary to paint it after awhile.
With that being the case, here are seven tips and tricks for painting your ceiling in Shamong, NJ
1. Use The Right Kind Of Paint
As many kinds of paint as there are, you should be aware that there are some that better for your ceiling than others.
Of course, you wouldn’t use a paint that is entirely inappropriate for indoor use — the paints are formulated for outdoor use for a reason.
If you can find a paint that is designated as a ceiling paint you might be better off, as these paints tend to be flat and drip less (and yet you still should realize that any given paint will drip and requires floor protection!)
2. Clean Your Ceiling First
The first thing you should do before you paint your ceiling is to fully clean it.
Though it might seem obvious that you would always clean your walls before cleaning them, some people might give their ceilings a pass since not a lot of people look up during the day to see how the ceiling is doing.
This is a crucial step as skipping it can greatly shorten the life of your ceiling paint job — painting over dirt or grime is just not a good look for your ceiling.
3. Let Your Ceiling Dry First
At many points in time during the ceiling painting process, you’re going to want to press on and continue, but those points in time are going to be exactly when you will have to wait — specifically, for something to dry.
Whether you’re going to be waiting for the ceiling to dry after you finish cleaning it or for the coat of primer to dry after you apply it (more on this later) you need to wait because otherwise you will find yourself either causing painting problems like bubbling if you paint on a wet surface or having partially dry paint peel while you paint.
4. Take Measurements Before You Start
In the preparation for your ceiling painting, you should take the time to fully measure your ceilings.
The reason that this is good idea is twofold — first that you want to know how much paint to purchase as there’s no sense in buying too much and having too little is just a bad idea.
Secondly, knowing how much ceiling there is to be painted means you can accurately determine how long the painting project will take and therefore make a good plan for painting it.
5. Use A Ladder
There are of course many ways you can reach your ceiling for painting if you don’t have an extendable paint roller.
Using a ladder is the best way you can get up there — the ladder is more portable than anything else you would use, and is safer as well.
6. Avoid Cheap Paint Rollers
One mistake that people often make when they’re painting the ceiling is to use an inexpensive paint roller.
This isn’t good even when you’re painting your walls but when you are painting your ceilings, you won’t want particles or bits of the roller break off into the paint which can sometimes happen with cheaper paint rollers.
7. Start With Primer
Lastly, please do note that you should make sure that you use a coat of primer before you apply the paint.
The coat of primer is a good preparatory step — it gets the ceiling smooth and better for paint in terms of adhesion.
